Mike Diamandis has admitted that Swindon Town Football Club are considering a move to Chippenham should plans to redevelop the County Ground fail.

Fans have greeted this news with anger and most have stated they do not want to see another Wimbledon situation where the club leaves it’s historic home.

Wimbledon moved to Milton Keynes and became the MK Dons after the club failed to find a new home for the club.

Speaking to the BBC in an exclusive interview Diamandis made it clear that the board’s favoured option is to remain in Swindon at a redeveloped County Ground.

The club have been offered a location off the M4 on Junction 17 at Chippenham to build a new stadium, and Diamandis admitted it was the board’s duty to look at such a move to help balance the books.

Diamandis has said that talks are under way with Swindon Borough Council and that the Swindon Council is eager to help the football club realise it’s dream of a new stadium at the County Ground site in Swindon.

Diamandis did not give a timescale as to when a decision would have to be made on moving the club out of Swindon.

Swindon Town have had several proposals for new stadium’s turned down including new stadium’s on the front garden, Blunsdon and the Shaw Tip.

A survey on another website shows that 87% of fans would not support Swindon Town should the club leave the Borough Of Swindon.

I think too its just a threat, maybe to spark Swindon Council into showing some interest in their local side, and assisting not hindering any plans. Shame its not local election time then we might actually see these local councillors, cos its the only time we do we see ’em out and about.
