Goals from Fola Onibuje and Aaron Brown give Swindon Town all three points in a fantastic 2-1 win at Gay Meadow this afternoon.

Swindon Town got off to a flying start against Shrewsbury despite the pitch being very wet and conditions like a skating rink when Fola Onibuje slotted home the first goal at close range after missing an easy header.

Swindon continued to have most the chances and enjoyed most of the posession in the first half but Shrewsbury midfielder set out to make Swindon’s trip to Shrewsbury miserable as he beat Swindon keeper Phil Smith with a fantastic curling 25 year free kick around the wall.

Swindon came back from the break and suffered the misfortune of Andy Monkhouse slipping on the wet pitch and having to be substituted for a suspected hamstring strain just after the break.

Swindon Town would take the lead for good on the 81st minute as Aaron Brown scored for Swindon thanks to a deflection which flew past Shrewsbury keeper Chris MacKenzie.

Swindon suffered a late scare at the very end but Phil Smith was the hero as he saved a close range shot from Shrewsbury before the defence kicked the ball down field.

Swindon Town are now back on winning form winning their last 2 games and now face a very difficult game next weekend against Lincoln City who sit above Town in second by 1 point.

I think Fola is turning out to be the ‘Crouch’ of L2 . his presence alone is unnerving defences.
