Swindon 1, Colchester 3

A Swindon Town side who looked hardly bothered slipped to a 3-1 defeat this afternoon at the County Ground.

Town’s first half was absolutely pathetic and were lucky only to be losing 2-0 at half time. We are normally quite positive but the only thing we are positive about today, is the fact we didn’t lose by 3 or 4 goals.

To keep this as short and as painless as possible, Colchester bossed us the whole game, our defence was non-existant and the U’s walk away with 3 easy points and will be wishing they can play us every week.

We don’t blame boss Maurice Malpas though, we blame the players who talk a good game but can’t perform. Malpas needs to let a fan into the dressing room and tell the players exactly what they think.

Conceeding 5 goals in 2 games is not acceptable and performances like that WILL see us relegated.

Our suggestion to the players is, get your fingers out and put on a good performance aganst MK Dons or you will be playing in League 2 next season.

JP McGovern told the Swindon Advertiser in the week he doesn’t like the stick he gets and the fans need to back the team. How can we back that???

Sadly the players still get paid anyway so a loss isn’t all that much of a problem really for the players. The players are paid to play football, sadly I didn’t see any today.

It’s time to stand up and be counted. If you don’t want to fight and wear the red shirt then please leave now. We know the team is better than that.

Roll on MK Dons.

Player Ratings

Peter Brezovan 4/10
Very poor game from Brezovan. Perhaps it is time Phil Smith is given a chance. Totally at fault for the 3rd goal.

Jack Smith 2/10
Poor poor performance from Smith who looked very nervous. His hand ball dropped in the path of Scott Vernon who scored the 2nd for Col U.

Jerel Ifil 4/10
Poor distribution. Needs time to get back to his best.

Hasney Aljofree 4/10
Largely non existent for the game. For some reason was played at left back. Casal would have been the better choice.

Patrick Kanyuka 6/10
Did well given the circumstances. The back four were poor but Kanyuka looked to be the only player at the back who was going to make a difference.

Jon-Paul McGovern 2/10
Absolute rubbish today. Looked as if he woul rather be down the pub. Sorry but if you are going to slam the fans for jeering the team, you need to back up your claim that support will cheer you on.

Michael Timlin 4/10
Worst game in a Swindon shirt and was taken off at half time. Maybe just an off-day at the office.

Lilian Nalis 6/10
Did his bit but no one was around to support him so he really couldn’t do more than he did.

Anthony McNamee 7/10
Colchester sussed Macca out and played 2 on 1 for the first half. Second half was more of the usual McNamee, sadly his effots went to waste.

Billy Paynter 6/10
Ran his socks off and jumped a bit but looked to be lacking confidence.

Simon Cox 7/10
Took his penalty well and was unfortunate not to score another goal.

Mark Marshall 8/10
The one player who was out to please. Looked very good working opposite of Macca. Will definately be a part of the first team going forward.

Lee Peacock 6/10
Ran about a bit but Peacock needs a string of games to claim his place.
An upgrade on Timlin who was poor. Easton will certainly get his shot to play in the starting XI next week at MK we think.
