A new name could be coming in to the Swindon Town managerial race after Tim Sherwood was sacked by Aston Villa today following Villa’s 2-1 loss to Swansea City yesterday.

Martin Ling is the current favourite to succeed Mark Cooper at the County Ground but following this morning’s events it is possible that Town chairman Lee Power turns to his good friend Tim Sherwood who was at most Town games last season prior to taking the gig at Villa Park.

Sherwood would be a name that would get Town fans excited although Ling does have connections to Swindon after spending part of his playing career at the County Ground.

Ling had been looking for a way back into football after leaving Torquay United following a bout of depression.

Since Sherwood’s departure from Villa, he has now been named the second favourite to land the Swindon Town job with odds of 2/1 at Sky Bet.
