STFC: If Not Malpas, Then Who Should Manage

With pressure increasing on Swindon Town boss Maurice Malpas, we have a look at some of the potential candidates should Malpas be removed as manager of the club.

Ian Holloway

Linked with the club every time there is a managerial vacancy. His connections with Bristol Rovers don’t do him any favours. Many will feel that Holloway would use the Swindon Town job to get another job at a bigger club.

Steve Cotterill

Did a good job at Burnley and Cheltenham and would be one of the hot favourites for the post. Currently doing some TV work after a failed tenure with the Minnesota Thunder who play in the USL first division.

Lou Macari

His name always crops up based on previous history at the club. Macari had stated in the past he would like to get back into management but we can’t see it. That said, club chairman Andrew Fitton has brought back several key figures from the past so who knows?

Luc Nijholt

Luc has thrown his name into the hat whenever the Swindon job has been available. Nijholt is currently manager of dutch club Stormvogels Telstar.

Billy Davies

Looking to get back into management although he recently declared his interest in a job in the Premier League so likely would not come to Swindon.

Martin Ling

The current Leyton Orient boss has expressed an interest in managing Swindon before and refused to be ruled out of the job last time it was available. No compensation was agreed between the clubs so Ling’s tenure at the County Ground never began.

Colin Calderwood

A name that will always be linked with the job. Calderwood has said before that he wants to manage Swindon Town after becoming a cult hero during the late 80’s and early 90’s at the County Ground. ‘The Fridge’ is currently the manager of Nottingham Forest who are bottom of the Championship.

My personal pick would be Steve Cotterill. Done well at the lower league level.

Steve C for me. Would love to see King Lou back but don’t think it would work. Luc N bit of an unknown also may not have too many contacts in UK, Lingy poss but is struggling this season, Holloway is a strange person really unsure of his sanity.
