It didn’t take long for the national press to start throwing names around.

Yesterday, The Daily Mail newspaper linked West Ham United’s First Team coach Wally Downes to the vacant Swindon Town job.

During his playing day, Downes was an instigator behind Wimbledon’s ‘Crazy Gang’ image playing 200 times for the Dons during the 1980’s.

In recent years, Downes has coached with Reading and Southampton before joining West Ham United in November 2010.
