Alan Sheehan’s agent has defended his clients decision to link-up with Preston North End to try and earn a deal with the recently relegated Championship side.
The Swindon Advertiser understand that the former Leicester City and Leeds United defender has reached an appearance limit that would have triggered a bonus payment clause in his contract.
Paul Bodin told the local media on Saturday that Alan Sheehan had essentially abandoned the club and expressed his disappointment at the Irishmans decision.
But Sheehan agent, Kelvin Gregory was left bemused by the events stating that the trial was arranged ‘in total agreement with Jeremy Wray’ and that even Paul Bodin had ‘wished Alan good luck on Saturday for Monday and then when we read the stories on Sunday we could not believe what we saw.’
Gregory concluded by explaining that this trial was arranged as they were under the impression that the club were not going to field Sheehan and that his client meant ‘no disrespect to Swindon fans or the club.’
This certainly contradicts what Paul Bodin is saying. The Town caretaker stated that he spoke to Town interim chairman Jeremy Wray on the day of his appointment stating that Wray ‘had just got off the phone with Alan Sheehan`s agent, who told him that he wants to go play in a trial match next week. He then asked if he was in my starting 11 and I told him no, certainly not after hearing that… We did not even give him permission to sort something out and it is already sorted before we get wind of it.’
Roll on the end of this miserable season!
