Rhys Evans In Talks With Blackpool

Free Agent Goalkeeper Rhys Evans is talking to atleast 2 club’s with the view of a move away from the County Ground, Blackpool is one of them.

Evans has been Swindon’s number one goalkeeper for three seasons now and has built up a good rapport with Swindon Town goalkeeping legend Fraser Digby.

Evans who trained with Carlo Cudicini when he was at Chelsea and was England’s Under 21 number one goalkeeper.

Swindon born Evans stated he was not at all happy with the contract Swindon offered him. Despite winning the Player Of The Year award the club only offered him a One year deal to which he said replied his future may lay elsewhere due to the fact, the club has been offering multi-year deal’s to most players.

Late last week Rhys Evans travelled to Blackpool to talk to Pool boss Simon Grayson about taking the number 1 shirt away from current goalkeeper Lee Jones. Evans also spent the weekend at Peter Clarke’s house.

Speaking to the Blackpool media for the first time since talk’s took place Grayson said, ‘Obviously he hasn’t made his mind up yet, because it depends what personal terms the club will offer him and so on, but he was impressed with the place,’

‘Rhys is a good keeper ? you don’t get signed by Chelsea for no reason. He learned a lot there and he also has plenty of experience in the lower leagues with Swindon.’

‘He liked the look of Blackpool but it’s early days and he has to look at all eventualities so we’ll just see what happens.’

Should Evans reject Swindon’s contract offer, Town will have to find 2 new goalkeepers. The only goalkeeper on Swindon’s books right now is youth team player Jon Stewart.
