The Red Army Fund has given caretaker manager Adi Williams a helping hand by funding the loan signing of goalkeeper Andy Lonergan, who has joined the club for a month from Preston North End.
The former England under-21 keeper, who is 23, was a regular in the Preston team in 2004-05 until his progress was hampered by cruciate ligament injury. Last season he spent a loan spell at Wycombe where he made two appearances before a recurrence of the injury brought the loan to an end.
Speaking on the clubs official website, Preston manager Paul Simpson said :’Andy is fit now and doing everything that we have asked of him but I just feel he needs some first team football to get his sharpness up to the mark, in case we need him over the Christmas period.’
Lonergan becomes the third player signed on loan using money raised by the Red Army Fund following Michael Proctor in 2005, and Chris McPhee towards the end of last season.
The Red Army Fund is a joint venture between TrustSTFC, the STFC supporters club, and Swindon Town FC. It was set up in 2003 to raise funds from local businesses and ordinary fans to generate additional finances for spending on the first team squad.

Good to see the trust helping out, but it is a shame when one of the best supported clubs in the division can’t fund it’s own players
