Vital Swindon Town has learned that the deal for Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Craig Rocastle was called off due to Swindon still oweing money to Sheffield Wednesday for Patrick Collins who was on loan at the County Ground until January.

Swindon have since paid the outstanding money to Wednesday, on Wednesday and were prepared to sign Rocastle the Thursday morning.

‘All the out-standing money – which was not a huge amount – was with them on Wednesday.’ Manager Iffy Onuora said.

Deputy Chairman Mark Devlin confirmed it was the money issue that caused the problems with the loan deal. ‘That was part of the problem but it was sorted out.’ He commented.

It has since been revealed that Because of the missing money situation, Sheffield Wednesday called off the deal, allowing Yeovil to sneak in, in the 11th hour to sign him. Yeovil Boss Steve Thompson made an enquiry for Rocastle and was told that he was available and the Swindon deal was off. Yeovil Town are also believed to be paying a bigger share of Rocastle’s wages than Swindon were willing to.
