New director Bill Power has promised that the new management regime will be able to spend money in the transfer market, should Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet convince the board that the player coming in would make an impact.
Swindon Town is sure to be able to recruit a higher calibre of player to the County Ground with his name alone.
Speaking to the media Power explained that money will be available, but don’t look for the club to spend stupid money on players.
‘We won’t waste money and we know that there are a lot of players out there who are available on free transfers, ‘ said Power.
‘It is possible to get good players in on Bosmans these days and I’ve been inundated with calls from people offering me players since the end of the season.’
‘But it’s not down to me, it’s down to Dennis. He will decide who he wants to bring in.’
‘Ideally he will look at the free transfer market but if there is a player who Dennis feels would make a real difference but would cost a fee, we will try to help him. Money will be available.’ Power concluded
Town’s last transfer fee was paid to Bristol City (£20,000) for Christian Roberts, although the club have paid agents fees to Jamie Cureton and Tony Thorpes agents last summer it is believed. Town’s highest fee ever paid was for Jan Age Fjortoft (£500,000) in 1994.
