Swindon Town goalkeeper Phil Smith could be out longer than first anticipated according to boss Paul Sturrock.

Smith arrived at Swindon from non leage side Crawley Town last season and has been a rock in goal for Swindon and has suffered with a groin injury as of late.

After Town’s 2-1 defeat to Doncaster Rovers, Sturrock said, ‘Phil Smith’s injury might be more long-term but we don’t know for how long as yet. He is going for another scan next week and we will then see what the news is.’

Peter Brezovan will now get his chance to impress Sturrock who has not seen Brezovan play to often thanks to the fantastic play from Smith.

The injury to Smith comes as a massive blow to the team. Swindon Town fans will be hoping Peter Brezovan will return to form shortly as Town face difficult games against Leyton Orient and Leeds United over the next 2 weeks.
