Former Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic defender Peter Shirtliff has joined Swindon Town backroom room staff according to the official Tranmere Rovers website.

Wilson and Shirtliff are old friends after being team mates at Hillsborough.

Shirtliff had enjoyed two productive seasons on the Wirral with Ronnie Moore who admitted he was disappointed to see his assitant depart, Moore told www.tranmererovers.co.uk that he ‘will be sorry to see Peter leave but respect his decision to link up with his friend Danny Wilson at Swindon.’

If true, Shirtliff will become the first of Wilson’s own backroom staff appointments.

Nothing has been confirmed at Swindon Town’s end of this news but it certainly puts David Byrne’s future in doubt. Byrne recently stated that his job was safe – however, he could be on his way or looking after the reserves next season.
