With the press going into a frenzy over Paolo Di Canio`s post match reaction yesterday against Aston Villa where some claimed he was telling the Villa fans they were going down, we look at some other memorable, Paolo Di Canio Swindon Town moments.

James Constable`s A Swindon Fan
As Town prepared to face arch rivals Oxford United, Di Canio claimed that Oxford hero James Constable was really a Swindon Town fan and he knew it, Oxford fans knew it and James Constable knew it. Constable would score a brace against Town at the County Ground and kiss the scummy yellow, Oxford badge, clearly not the actions of a Town supporter. Town would later make a bid for Constable which Oxford would accept after speaking to Constable. Constable would eventually bottle it and not show up for talks with Swindon. As the song goes, Constable stayed at Oxford and won **** all.

Leon Clarke Throws a Hissy Fit
Newly signed Swindon Town striker Leon Clarke had just completed 90 minutes in a defeat to Southampton in the Carling Cup. As Clarke came off at the end of the match, he was comforted by Fabrizio Picaretta who told him he would be doing extra running the following day in training, Clarke stormed off and confronted Di Canio who said he was not running tomorrow. Di Canio attempted to calm the situation by putting his arm around Clarke and to discuss it in the dressing room. Clarke threw Di Canio`s shoulder off of him and began to push Di Canio. A bit or Argy Bargy kicked off in the tunnel and Clarke returned to the pitch like a petulant child and cried before going home in his Swindon kit. The bloke who clearly has a huge chip on his shoulder has played for no less than 5 clubs since leaving. Can score and has talent but is also a complete and utter tool.

The Paolo Di Canio Circus
Pie loving Crawley Town manager, Steve Evans said he dreaded playing Swindon Town and was annoyed as the match was focusing around the “Di Canio Circus”. Town were getting much publicity in League Two due to Paolo Di Canio being boss. In response Paolo said “I don`t care what he says, I`ve never heard of him”. The ringleader then lead his acts to a 3-0 drubbing of Crawley.

Swindon Town Beat Wigan Athletic
Goals from Alan Connell and Paul Benson ensured Town beat Wigan in the FA Cup third round at the County Ground. After the match he dedicated the victory to his father who died earlier in the season. He also over-reacted by saying it was the best day of his life and that the club needs a plaque to mark to “momentous occasion”, the club never got a plaque or any sort of recognition, just a fourth round tie at Leicester City and a few front page headlines.

I`ll win this league anyway
Town boss Paolo Di Canio had been sent to the stands several times over the space of a few weeks for over-reacting and getting too excitable on the touchline. The fourth official told PDC to use his mouth not his arms. Following the match against Macclesfield, Di Canio ranted “I do what I want in the technical area, I move my arms, my body, my feet”. Then he calmly turned around and said “I don`t care, send me to the stands every week, I don`t care, I will win this league anyway.” And he did.

PDC drops most his squad after P*** Up
Di Canio returned to Italy for a few days and whilst he was away, the squad thought they would go for a crafty beer to celebrate the arrival of Alan McCormack`s new daughter. Paolo wasn`t supposed to know but someone grassed. As the players didn`t tell him right away, he dropped most of them against Aldershot Town. Then days later a few more players who didn`t admit they were part of the fun got caught out and they too were dropped against Gillingham. Despite losing 3-1 Town won promotion that day. The players were allowed one beer to celebrate, on the coach, under the supervision of Paolo Di Canio.

Paolo Dances In The Moonlight
Swindon Town decided to host a party on the County Ground pitch following their League Two championship win. Town invited a few bands including Toploader who were only ever known for one song, “dancing in the moonlight”. As they came on stage, PDC was invited on stage to sing with them. He managed to sing Dancing in the moonlight and make a rubbish song even worse with his lack of vocal skills. It was a bit of a laugh though and once against PDC became a bigger legend. He wasn`t as bad as Phil Brown mind!
