Swindon Town managed a 1-1 with Notts County Today after a superb strike by Fola Onibuje. Swindon fans will be happy with the result but most fans minds were on off the field matters today.
Swindon Town started the game as if nothing was going on in the background. This is the exact thing that needed to be done today to lift the spirits of the travelling fans. Town had 2 great chances from Ady Williams and Lee Peacock in the first half.
Peacock’s chance hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced back out. It did appear that the ball had crossed the line according to manager Dennis Wise.
Both teams went into the break 0-0 which at the time would be a fair result to both teams who played some entertaining football on the ground.
Town Striker Fola Onibuje netted his first senior goal for Swindon on the 47th minute after a defensive mix-up with the Notts County defenders.
Alan White levelled for Notts County 19 minutes later after heading home a corner from Ian Ross.
Town had some great chances in the second half but could not capitalise. The game ended 1-1 and most fans would say that is a fair reflection of the game.
The atmosphere at Meadow Lane was subdued. Many Town fans whow were chanting for the Town didn’t appear to have their hearts fully in it. The normally vocal travelling support was very quiet on a day of reflection. Many blame games were played during the day which made a hostile atmosphere amongst some groups of Swindon supporters. Many fans chanted “Carson Out” and “Sack The Board” due to the departure of Bill Power, however until the facts are out perhaps it is best to leave these chants to half time.
