Northampton Town are looking to beat Swindon Town for the signature of Simon Cox as the end of the transfer window nears.

Northampton have made a bid for the highly rated striker and will break their transfer record if they succeed in signing him.

Cobblers boss Stuart Gray has told local newspapers that the club are waiting to hear back from ‘a Premier League club’ and that the club will let Northampton know near the end of the transfer window whether their bid has been accepted.

The player is clearly Swindon Town target Simon Cox although Northampton refuse to name the player they are chasing.

Cox was on loan at Northampton last season and scored 3 goals in 8 games.

Simon Cox has already made it known that he would love to return to Swindon after scoring 9 goals in 19 appearances for the Wiltshire club earlier this season.

Cox clearly stated that he would be over the moon to return to Swindon if the chance came up.

Swindon Town’s bid has yet to be accepted however neither has Northampton’s.

The Swindon Town players have been begging Cox to come back as well as the teams management.

The transfer window shuts this Thursday so hopefully their will be some movement in the next day or so.

It is believed that Simon Cox’s first choice would be Swindon Town if a League One bid was to be accepted as he knows he would be playing first team football every week.
