Striker Tommy Mooney has rubbished rumours of a return to the County Ground after a meeting wtih Sir Seton Wills.

The former cult hero, who scored 20 goals for Swindon Town during the 2003/04 season and helped lead the club to the Division 2 (League One) playoffs, says he has no idea where all the rumours came from.

‘I’m not aware of any talk about me going back to Swindon, In fact I’m in negotiations over a new deal at Wycombe. I’m very happy here.’ Mooney said.

Mooney did reveal that he did have a meeting with Sir Seton Wills after his goal helped Wycombe draw 1-1 with Swindon at Adams Park earlier in the month.

‘After the 1-1 draw in the league game, I was sitting in the dressing room, there was a knock on the door and in came Sir Seton and Mike Spearman (former chairman).

‘They shook my hand and said some nice things even though I’d just stopped them getting three points.

‘It’s the first time I’ve ever had opposition officials come in like that. I appreciated it.’

As for the goal that broke the hearts of the Swindon Town fans Mooney would only reply with , ‘I suppose it was scripted that I’d score that night wasn’t it?’

Mooney left Swindon Town after the 2003/04 season after a contract dispute and joined bitter rivals Oxford United.

After his departure he has had a love/hate relationship with the Swindon fans and has since came out and said he should never had left Swindon Town and was close to coming back prior to last season according to Mooney.

Mooney had said he had spoken to then manager Andy King about a return but no agreement was reached.

I think most fans would be willing to forgive Mooney if he came back and scored another 20 goals for us, taking us back to League One, but in Mooney’s own words it won’t be happening soon.
