Swindon Town finally get an away win and take all 3 points against The Franchise at the Stadium MK this afternoon on a hot and sunny day in Buckinghamshire.

The first half of the match was pretty lacklustre and it really did look as if it was going to be a long trip back to Wiltshire. The only real highlight was the saves that Keeper Phil Smith made for Swindon.

The second half looked better and Town would score the opening goal after Simon Cox grabbed the ball from waste of space Sean O’Hanlon and passed it onto Billy Paynter who slotted away the pass.

The Dons would fight back though and level the game at one a piece after Jude Stirling tapped in the ball at close range after Town keeper Phil Smith fumbled the ball in his area.

The Dons looked as if they would take a 2-1 lead shortly after Stirling’s goal before Smith held on to the ball to slow the game up.

The game looked destined to be one all draw until Craig Easton was upended by Dean Lewington and referee Steve Bennett awarded a penalty to Swindon. Simon Cox would convert the penalty to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage on the 90th minute.

In the closing moments MK Dons had a penalty call waved away and Town leave the Stadium:MK with all 3 points and end a 3 game winless streak.

Unexpected but welcome result, settle the nerves a bit – seems MM got it right this time and we had a rub of the green.

We did indeed. Penalty was probably justified but I wouldn’t have been surprised to see it waved on.

I should go more often – we seem to win when I turn up – my last 3 games were this one, the Forest win in the mud last season, and the Hartlepool win when Brez saved 2 pens. It’s a bit of a trek from Cambridge though.
