Swindon Town boss Maurice Malpas has dropped Phil Smith after telling him he did not take his chance.

Many Town fans felt goalkeeper Peter Brezovan should never had been dropped in the first place however Malpas wanted to see how 2006/07 Vital Swindon Town player of the season Phil Smith would get on in a first team match.

Smith had started the last 3 games replacing the in-form Brezovan however Malpas has admitted that Smith failed to take his chance and re-called Brezovan to his starting XI against Leyton Orient last night.

Speaking to the Swindon Advertiser Malpas said, ‘I felt that Phil Smith got his chance to play and he never really stepped forward and took it.’

‘I took Peter Brezovan out but he has been excellent in training and I just felt the time was right to put him back in.’

In true Swindon Town fashion though some Swindon Town fans slated Brezovan saying ‘you shouldn`t be on the pitch’.

I guess they say ‘you can`t please everyone’ but some Swindon Town fans seem determined to question everything that Malpas tries just because the team is going through a rocky patch.
