Leigh Mills Leaves Spurs

Former Swindon Town youth star Leigh Mills has had his contract terminated by Tottenham Hotspur.

Mills was Swindon Town’s hottest property and had captained England U-16’s before departing the County Ground for White Hart Lane in 2004.

After Swindon, Leigh Mills represented England at European Under-17 Championships in May 2005 and became a regular in the Spurs youth team making 19 league appearances during the first season and formed an impressive partnership with Charlie Lee at the back as Spurs progressed to the Semi-Final stages of the FA Youth Cup.

On the official Tottenham Hotspur website it is stated that Leigh Mills ‘played another 22 times for the Under-18s in 2005-06 and stepped up to make four reserve appearances and was a consistent performer at both reserve and Academy levels in 2006-07. However, injury problems restricted Leigh to just six appearances for the reserves in the 2007-08 campaign.’

He was sent out on loan to Brentford last summer but before he made his debut Spurs recalled Mills and sent him on loan to Gillingham shortly afterwards.

While at Priestfield, Mills made 6 league appearances and scored in the 2-0 win against Chester City.

Before his loan spell ended on January 1st, Mills hadn’t featured in the first team since Novemeber 25th as a 2nd half sub during the 1-1 draw with Rochdale.
