Manager Iffy Onuora has admitted today for the first time he would love Paul Smith to stay at the County Ground. A national newspaper reported today that Smith will sign a new one year contract regardless of our situation at the end of the season. Iffy was quick to note that nothing is etched in stone as of yet by saying, ?We?ll sit down and talk.

Paul Smith was instrumental in Town’s rejuvination in February and up until his injury in the 1-0 win over Gillingham on 14th February, Smith had helped propell Town to 16th in the table. Onuora was quick to note how much better the club played with Smith in the team and this is one of the main reasons for wanting him back. ?I think just by the fact that he?s been an influence in the games he?s played will stand him in good stead.

?It isn?t straightforward of course. There?s budgets and figures to juggle but I?m hoping that we can get him on board.?

Smith who was Gillingham’s player of the season three times prior to coming to Swindon, will miss the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury. Smith hopes to be ready for next season after having surgery to correct the injury.
