Swindon Town Boss Paul Sturrock’s bid to bring winger Lee Holmes back to Swindon on loan from Derby appears to have failed.

Holmes had stated his desire to join a Championship side prior to this season to improve his match fitness knowing he would not make Derby`s first team in the Premier League.

Holmes looked set to return to the County Ground on loan after no Championship clubs had made an offer for the youngster.

Holmes had been expected to sign for Swindon after being spotted watching Town`s Carling Cup clash against Charlton Athletic at the County Ground however those plans may have changed now that manager Paul Sturrock`s former club Sheffield Wednesday have made an offer.

Lee had been a former Under 19 England player before injuries slowed his career down.

Holmes played at the County Ground on loan for Three months during the 2004-05 season where he became an instant hit with the fans.
