Swindon Town midfielder Ashan Holgate looks set to sign for League 2 side Macclesfield Town after being told he will not feature in the Swindon first team next season.

The lifelong Swindon Town fan is disappointed to be leaving SN1 but after a successful loan spell at Macclesfield under former team mate Paul Ince, Holgate now looks set to join the League 2 outfit on a permanent deal.

‘I am looking forward to a fresh challenge elsewhere. Hopefully it will give me the chance to start playing regular league football, which I probably wasn’t going to get here.’ Holgate said,

‘I can’t say too much about the future at the moment but it is no secret I enjoyed my time at Macclesfield and am hoping something will happen there. I am due for talks over the next couple of days and that is all I can say really.’

Holgate made one first team appearance for Swindon against Brentford in the Carling Cup under former boss Dennis Wise before going on loan to Macclesfield for the remainder of the season.
