Former Swindon Town midfielder Matt Hewlett will miss several months after suffering from a prolapsed spinal disc.

Hewlett who left Swindon for Torquay United after the 2004/05 season had a love hate relationship with the fans at the County Ground.

Here is the latest on Hewlett’s back injury from Torquay United manager Ian Atkins.

‘Following weeks of treatment and later investigation it has now been decided that Matt Hewlett is suffering from a prolapsed spinal disc and will be out for many months,’ a statement on the club’s official website read.

‘Matt is naturally gutted and he is faced with a gruelling return to fitness even if he can avoid an operation.

‘He is currently undergoing stretching at Mount Stuart Hospital and this may be coupled with an injection. If this fails then it will take an operation to fuse together the affected parts of his spine.

‘The club were aware of the probability of this situation and Ian Atkins has already taken steps to fill the now vacant position.’

We wish Hewlett a speedy return to action.

Wishing good luck and speedy recovery -sounds like he’s having a rough time of it.
Always seemed as a player to me a bit lacking of that killer instinct.
