Grimsby 1, Swindon 0

Swindon Town slip to 5th place in League 2 after suffering a 1-0 loss to Grimsby this afternoon at Blundell Park. Swindon’s strikers have not scored since January. Manager Paul Sturrock has promised changes including signing a new striker on Monday.

Swindon started the game well and had the majority of possession during the first half of the game, with Christian Roberts having a couple of chances.

Swindon’s defence looked solid at the back even with Jerel Ifil and Ady Williams missing from action, Jamie Vincent lead from the back and was the difference maker.

Ashley Westwood finally looks to be finding his match form and helped clear a couple of good crosses from the Swindon box.

Going into half time 0-0 was a fair result for a fairly entertaining first half of the match.

Going into the second half Grimsby came out all guns blazing. Jamie Vincent would have to go off with an injury early in the 2nd half however Grimsby took advantage right away with Ciaran Toner converting a John McDermott cross to give the home team a well deserved lead.

Swindon would be chasing the game in the second half and Michael Timlin would receive his second yekllow card meaning he will miss next weekend’s crucial match against Lincoln City.

Grimsby would go on to hold onto the 1-0 lead and get a victory with Swindon’s strikeforce of Peacock or Roberts looking fairly abscent most of the second half

Roberts or Peacock have not scored since January and in his post match interview, manager Paul Sturrock noted he has an agreement to bring in a new striker and that Roberts and Peacock have had enough chances.
