Greedy Council Beg Swindon For Money

Swindon Councillor David Glaholm has asked Swindon Town’s new owners to pay the council over £400,000 which relates to debts as far back as five years ago.

Glaholm must have thought April Fools Day has come early as he cheekily asks the new owners of Swindon Town F.C who are very wealthy to pay off old debt, even though the new owners have nothing to do with them.

Glaholm told the Swindon Advertiser Perhaps the multi-millionaire could be persuaded to put his hands in his pocket and pay the full amount or donate the money to the council.

‘The football club owes a lot of money to the council regardless of whether he has to pay it back or not I think he should, otherwise the town will lose out.

‘It is great the football club has been saved but now this guy should reimburse the council.’

Swindon Town chairman Andrew Fitton slammed the councillor and told the local newspaper ‘He is completely out of order saying that.

‘The reason it is not being paid back by me is because it is from five years ago.

‘It has nothing to do with me.’ The club agreed to a company voluntary agreement in 2002 where the club would pay a portion of the amount owed.

The Councilor should remember if Andrew Fitton’s consortium didn’t come along the council would have no money as Swindon Town F.C would have gone into liquidation.
