Gary Peters: Match Reaction

Shrewsbury Town Manager Gary Peters gives his thoughts to the media after seeing his side fall 2-1 to Swindon Town this afternoon.

‘It’s hard to take that we’ve got nothing to show for our efforts today but I’m having to get used to that because we seem to be a team that can get lots of gary peterspossession and lots of chances and still manage to loose it.

‘We don’t think that we’ve been outplayed there today, and we’ve had fourteen games where we think we’ve been as good as the opposition but it’s about the quality at the end.

‘We weren’t good enough to break them down and then they get some luck to get the second goal. When it was 1-1 and we’d got in to the game and we were battering them then I could see us going onto win the game.

‘As soon as Swindon got a goal up they go into the tactics of trying to break the game up, slow it down and make it unattractive but that’s the way you’ve got to do it. the fact that they were wasting time and breaking the game up completely I can’t complain about as they aren’t here to entertain our supporters.

‘I can’t take any good feelings out of this game as we lost the game, it doesn’t matter that we got a lot of good balls into their box, the performance was good, we lost the game and that’s all that matters.

‘Derek Asamoah wasn’t good against Peterborough and Hereford and hasn’t played well since he came back from Ghana so I put him on the bench, he does give us that pace and threat but it didn’t work again today.

‘We didn’t create enough from open play and I’ve had a go at the boys about that, yes we can create from free-kicks but sometimes our quality lets us down in free play.

His idea that they had most of the possession and lost the match, he should look at his strikers finishing or contribution to the game.
