Former Town Loanee Retires

Former Swindon Town loanee Paul Mitchell has been forced to retire from professional football after failing to recover from a long-term leg and ankle injury.

The The 27 year old Milton Keynes Dons defender, who also captained them was advised by their medical staff to call it quits.

Mitchell was signed by Andy King on a months loan from Wigan Athletic back in September 2004. The Mancunian defender started seven games for Swindon making his debut in the 1-0 away win at Colchester. This was followed by a home loss to Peterborough and a draw at Blackpool. Wins against Bradford (Sammy Igoe free-kick) and Oldham, a 3-3 draw with Stockport (Town surrendering a 3-0 lead) and a 1-0 loss at home to Port Vale completed his spell before returning to the JJB Stadium.

Paul Mitchell has now been appointed a community ambassador at MK Dons.
