Former Swindon Town striker Charlie Austin will be playing Premier League Football next season after his current team Queens Park Rangers beat Derby County 1-0 in the SkyBet Championship play-off final this afternoon.

Austin joined Town from non-league Poole Town and went on to score 31 goals in 54 games for Swindon Town before handing in a transfer request as Town languished near the bottom of League One the season after losing the League One play-off final against Millwall.

Austin almost became a Premier League striker prior to this season after Burnley, who bought Austin from Town agreed to sell the player to newly promoted Hull City.

Austin’s Premier League dream was put off after he failed a medical and was subsequently sold to QPR where the rags to riches story completed today.
