Doncaster 1 – Swindon 0

Jamie McCombe’s 80th minute header gave Doncaster Rovers 3 valuable points over promotion rivals Swindon Town this afternoon at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Both teams were fairly square during the first half of the match but second half Doncaster were good value for their money as they dominated possession whilst Town continued to play a negative 4-5-1 formation.

If it wasn’t for Wes Foderingham’s fine saves, Town would have been on the receiving end of a good hiding.

Town boss Kevin MacDonald needs to realise Town were a decent attacking team and a 4-4-2 formation with Simon Ferry in midfield would get the best out of the side.

There is no point blaming the pitch which was more like a sandbox than a field, Town simply were poor due to poor choices by the manager.

Town only decided to change to a 4-4-2 formation and put Gary Roberts on the wing on 81 minutes after the draw was gone and Donny took the lead.

Many Town fans are quite frankly concerned at Town’s recent form as they look at risk of slipping out of the top six. The next two matches against MK Dons and Sheffield United are crucial if Town are to have any chance at automatic promotion.
