The club have opted against triggering the one-year option on Scottish defender Scott Cuthbert.

The 23 year old former Celtic prospect had impressed during his first season but there was a dramatic decline throughout his second term in Town’s back four.

However, it’s believed that Town and Cuthbert could enter talks as soon as he returns from holiday to negotiate the possibilty of a new contract under reduced terms.

Many fans are keens for a massive clear-out at Swindon but one poor season doesn’t define a career. Cuthbert has proved what he can do, so why not try and keep faith with younger players?

Recently, Cuthbert told BBC Wiltshire that his time at Swindon had been a “different class” and that if he was “going to be here next year, I’d be delighted”.
