Swindon Town defender Chris Blackburn has left the club by mutual consent after failing to hold down a place in the starting XI at the County Ground.

Blackburn arrived at the County Ground after leading Morecambe to promotion to the Football League at Wembley Stadium last season.

Blackburn failed to impress Maurice Malpas and quickly found himself available to leave.

Blackburn headed out on loan to Blue Square Premier side Weymouth at the end of the season before returning 2 weeks ago.

Town’s final appearance for Town was in the Wiltshire Shield against Salisbury City.

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy is known still to be a keen admirer of the defender.

Blackburn now has the chance to sort himself out a new club prior to the 2008/09 season.
