Swindon Town’s playoff dream is over after a 2-1 defeat to Brighton this afternoon at the Withdean Stadium.

If Town do not pick up results soon they could face a relegation battle at the end of the season.

It was a very cold day at the Withdean Stadium however Swindon fans were able to warm themselves up after Craig Easton gave the visitors the lead after only 8 minutes.

Swindon would enjoy most of the possession during the first half however, Brighton striker Nicky Forster leveled things up on the 12 minute after heading in a great Dean Cox free kick.

The second half would see Swindon putting plenty of crosses in the box however the back 4 for Brighton were quick to clear any danger.

Nicky Forster would then give The Seagulls the lead scoring a cracking free kick goal just outside the area.

The ever dangerous Forster had now scored his 7th goal in 7 games to give Brighton’s playoff hopes a massive boost.

Town almost got lucky late on as Brighton’s Tommy Elphick almost scored an own goal.

Swindon would battle on however there was not enough time and despite the snow starting and the Swindon fans chanting “call it off”, Brighton fans went home the happier set of fans securing all 3 points.

With 8 games to go you only need 5 points or so to be sure of staying up and you will do as you are not a bad team on todays performance.

Thanks Steve – I think though we are so disappointed with how we slipped down the league and the standard of our football has deteriorated. Good luck.
