Billy Paynter has agreed a 3 year contract with Leeds United it has been confirmed today.

The Liverpudlian forward was widely expected to leave after Town chairman Andrew Fitton admitted it would be unlikely that Paynter would remain in Wiltshire despite handed Town’s top scorer a new deal.

Paynter joined from Southend United in 2007 and played 137 times for Swindon in all competitions scoring 51 times, 29 of them coming during the season just gone.

So can Paynter replace Jermaine Beckford who left Leeds for Everton this week? I’m not so sure. Paynter has struggled at this level and could again but he’s had a great season and fully deserves to give the Championship another go and Vital Swindon wishes Billy Paynter all the best at Leeds.
