Swindon Town chairman Andrew Fitton has told the media that a big name had applied for the Swindon Town managers job.

Fitton had previously stated that he did not believe a caretaker should really take over as manager pretty much ruling David Byrne out of the job.

The man in question is not a player manager and has a wealth of experience although Fitton refused to say just who the mystery man was.

Town fans have began speculating it could be Alan Curbishley, Glenn Hoddle or Sam Allardyce who are all looking to get back into the game.

Curbishley has been linked with a return to Charlton after Alan Pardew was sacked and would likely hold out for a managers job in the Premier League despite saying he would like to manage in the lower leagues again.

Hoddle was a legend at the County Ground and got Town promoted to the Premier League however again, he would likely be looking for a job in either the Championship or Premier League if he was looking for a return to management.

Allardyce has been out of work since being sacked by Newcastle last season and would likely be looking for a job in the top flight after being out of work for over a year.

Whoever the mystery man is, Fitton was quick to say that just because he was a big name, does not mean he is the right man for the job which we agree.

The long term stability of the club is paramount and any big name may be expecting big money to spend at the County Ground.
