Swindon Town have confirmed that defender Ben Tozer has been sold to Newcastle United.

Tozer made his senior debut for Swindon Town against Charlton Athletic in the League Cup earlier on in the season and has since made 6 other first team appearances.

Many scouts have been tracking Tozer`s progress and a deal worth a rumoured £1.1m has now been accepted by Swindon Town for the promising player.

This is the second time in 2 seasons that one of Town`s most promising players has been sold to a Premier League side with Lukas Jutkiewicz heading to Everton in the summer.

Tozer is set to travel to Newcastle on Monday to finalise terms of his switch to St. James` Park.

Hello, I’m a Newcastle fan, our weakness (well, our main one) for the last few years has been a lack of a quality left back, so how good do you reckon Tozer could be? At 17, I don’t expect him to go straight into the starting line-up but in a couple of years maybe so I was just wondering what your opinion is of the lad. Even though he’s only just got into your first team recently.

Tozer is tall but to be honest, I can’t say I have seen anything that makes him special. I honestly don’t expect him to break into Newcastle’s first team except maybe the odd carling cup or FA cup game. He is tall and perhaps can be moulded but even at League One he has not been great. His distribution is pretty poor.

There must be potential there given how much interest there has been.

Also even if it was entirely down to Fitton, I’m sure he would have sold him for over £1M, we are after all only a league 1 club and thats tidy money

Good luck to young Ben. As spoke about before, i mentioned he is like a young “Shaun Taylor” to me but needs to learn a lot which he will do but not for a fair few years. This is a monsterous deal for our club. He is young, he will learn a good trade up there (Just look at Steven Taylor). All the best Ben
