Swindon Town’s opposition Saturday, Accrington Stanley are being by the Football League for fielding ineligible players in three recent fixtures.

Accrington who returned to the Football League after a long hiatus have struggled this season and currently sit 21st in League 2 and 3 points above relegation.

Accrington face a possible points deduction, thought to be 9 points as Accrington had won 3 games with the players in question.

Accrington Stanley have released the following statement on the matter.

Accrington Stanley Football Club confirm that they are in receipt of documentation from the Football League in which charges have been laid alleging that ineligible players participated in three recent fixtures.

Issues surrounding the registration of players is a complex matter. The Club considers the charges to be technical issues and will submit a detailed defence to the Disciplinary Commission hearing early next month.

Accrington Stanley Football Club is taking expert advice in this matter and can assure supporters that they will take every available option open to them to ensure that League status is maintained.

The Club will make no further comment at the present time
