7 Days in Swindon


Monday 3rd August

New season optimism oozes throughout the local rags with Danny Wilson and Gordon Greer saying their bit.

Swindon are given a bye in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Tuesday 4th August

‘We have to make sure we apply ourselves well for the game.’ says Michael Timlin to the Swindon Evening Advertiser ahead of Town’s opening day clash with Gillingham.

Meanwhile Swindon win draw their final pre-season friendly – a 3-3 draw at Cirencester. Jakub Jesionkowski makes his debut while trialists Yan Klukowski and Dean McDonald find themselves of the scoresheet along with Town youth player Jordan Record.

Wednesday 5th August

Yan Klukowski, Panikos Efythmides, Dean McDonald and Bradley Clark all fail to earn contracts at Swindon.

Thursday 6th August

Martyn Waghorn joins Leicester City on loan. It is believed that Waghorn was a target for Swindon.

Waghorn joins Theo Robinson, Nile Ranger, Hal Robson-Kanu, Simon Church, Reuben Reid and Billy Clarke as strikers that Danny Wilson was confirmed or rumoured to be trying to sign and failing to do so.

Friday 7th August

No signings are made meaning that only Billy Paynter becomes the first name on Danny Wilson’s team sheet for tomorrows clash with Gillingham.

The coaching staff and players talk to the media about being ready for the new season and how much they’re looking forward to it…

Saturday 8th August

A disastrious opening day. Swindon venture to Gillingham and are hammered 5-0 leaving Town fans worrying about what’s ahead.

Was it a bad day at the office?

Is this a sign of things to come?

Sunday 9th August

Town fans with hangovers begin to prepare for MK Dons on Tuesday night!
